Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens, better than Queen Latifah America, is a rapper and actress. in film, music and television Queen Latifah has received two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award as well as six more Grammy nominations, and nods to the Emmy Award. Queen Latifah was born in and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita an educator who worked at Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Jr. as a police officer. Latifah's parents divorced when she aged 10 years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah can be described as an Arabic term that translates to "delicate and compassionate". Her cousin gave it to her when she was eight. Latifah was always large, at 5'10", she was the strong forward for her high school basketball team. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz in a performance at her highschool. Latifah started to beatbox for the Ladies Fresh. Latifah was member of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who gathered around the producer, DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded a demo recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. The song was recorded and given to Yo! MTV Raps who is known as Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music signed Latifah upon hearing the track. Her first single Wrath of My Madness, in the year 1988.
