Their father Abraham was a great supporter of his children to pursue their dreams by encouraging them. Abraham senior was also a musician in the first band, named Los Dinos. Selena Y Los Dinos were officially founded in the year 1981. The band was the family business and the main source of revenue for the Quintanilla family. Even though there were times of struggle at the beginning with little money the Quintanilla family persevered and remained focused with their efforts to become a successful band. Selena Y Los Dinos achieved popularity throughout the Western States in the latter part of the 1980s. The group received their first taste success after Selena received awards for Female Vocalist of the Year as well as Performer of the Year during the Tejano music awards. Selena Y Los Dinos became well-known and recognizable at this time. They appeared on numerous Spanish programming on television such as El Show De Johnny Canales Siempre En Domingo and Sabado Gigante.
